2014 CAR FREE DAY  on Commercial Drive My first outdoor show of the year and morning rain was in the forecast.  I thought nothing of it as my canopy has walls.  I'd never had my canopy in the rain so my fingers were crossed it didn't leak as water resistant and water proof are two different things. I'm usually pretty organized and believe in LISTS so I don't leave anything to chance and the canopy is on top of the list. While setting up, we realized we had no walls and remembered the walls came in their own carrying case.  Then we heard a big bang of thunder and it started to rain, and I mean POUR DOWN BUCKETS OF RAIN .  Everything had to be scooted onto one table and covered with a plastic table cloth (which I just happened to have tucked into one of the bags that morning). After about an hour the rains let up, the streets filled again with the hustle and bustle of excitement and eager participation.   The good news is the canopy only had ...

INSPIRATION: Once the new(er) cabinets were installed, I was inspired to clean my studio and mingle all the stuff I had thrown into those lovely plastic bin towers we are all so fond of. I managed to clear a whole tall tower and several dr awers are now empty in a few others. After two days (I'm not quite finished), I managed to make a HUGE dent in what has to be done. Chain, jump rings, wire, tools etc., etc., etc. are now all in their proper places. The remaining "stuff" was dumped into a few containers and I'll sort them another day. I got rid of lots of "stuff" and feel like I'll have a fresh start at my bench to start creating for upcoming shows. BARGIN BIN - in the works: I've been bagging beads & findings I no longer use and will sell off at upcoming events. They'll start at $1 each per bag and up. PLANNED CREATIVE SCHEDULE (over the next month): - Enameling - Etching - Anticlastic forming - Sawing, Soldering & Riveting Can'...

Gotta Love Recycling.  I found kitchen cabinets on Craigslist from the old RCMP building in Surrey for a great price. Here are before, during and AFTER pics.  I'm one happy camper and so lucky to have a wonderful DH (along with our good friend) to install them. It will be nice to get things organized as it was really getting over crowded in there. From a kitchen reno job my DH did. Someone actually stole a drawer.  It served it's purpose for a few years. Out with the old. Clean Slate DRUM ROLL PLEASE... Aren't these awesome.  So much room and a few cabinets still empty.

Railroad Tracks make great anvils and my DH, while out on one of his gold panning adventures (his new hobby this year), found a long piece of railroad track. Being the thoughtful man that he is, he dragged it back to the vehicle and brought it home. After running around everywhere, he found a place to cut it into pieces, which I then offered up for sale. They were grabbed very quickly. On a more recent outing, my DH found yet another piece which will be cut in the next week. I already have a list of interested parties if I can fit it into a USPS Flat Rate Box ($12.35 US) to ship. A young man dropped by the other day for an 8" piece and he was getting into black-smithing. I mentioned I had a 12" piece and he quickly upgraded. I can't wait to use mine but am stuck in the office doing taxes for the next week. GRRRR. Much prefer to be in my studio. I found a great chunk of railroad track today. It will be perfect for an anvil but needs a little cleaning first.
