I thought I could escape it. You know, that nasty cold your beloved has been suffering with for the past week but NOPE, it hit me like a lead balloon last night. Sore throat, headache, heavy chest, runny nose, hard to breath. All I can say is YUCK and I have so much to do this week. Went to bed with vicks on my chest (need to put on my feet tonight with socks) and a bag of Buckley's cough drops. Alieve took care of my headach. In the meantime, here are a few pairs of earrings I worked on yesterday. Trying out different textures for the studs part.

Broom Casting Silver and more...

Adventures in Silver Broom Casting I invited a few girlfriends for lunch today and one of them suggested we do broom casting.  Two of the ladies took a class recently and the other two (myself included) were intrigued by the concept and willing to give it a try.   With a new crucible, the first step is to flux it.   First lesson:  "do not add borax (flux) until the crucible is very hot" or else it will fly everywhere. Makes sense, right - LOL I retreated to my bench to do the deed.  Once I  heated the crucible, I added a little borax (flux) to coat it. My first casting was using brass (copper for my second).   It took forever to melt, even with the addition of an additional torch. There was more success with the brass casting vs. the copper (exact opposite  of what I expected).   Not sure if the type of fuel is important, but I used mapp gas which could have been part of the problem, along with a slight breeze. HELLO and HAPPY DECEMBER!

Hey there, after being MIA on my BLOGGER for way too long, I'm gearing up to make a comeback in 2024. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I'm itching to dive back into my studio and shift my focus to enameling and silversmithing next year. Got tons of ideas I've been dying to try out, and my enamel stash is practically begging to be used. Speaking of stashes, with time zooming by, I've had this lightbulb moment that I'll never get through all my supplies in this lifetime. It's that classic artist dilemma, right? The more you have, the more you crave. So, in the spirit of decluttering and making room for new adventures, I'm planning to sell off stuff I know I won't get around to using. Thank goodness for the Facebook Marketplace – it's about to become my creative yard sale! Here's to hoping 2024 brings a whole lot of creative vibes and a tad more organization to my creative chaos!
